NUMBER ONE FAN - LAURIE NICHOLS

Laurie Nichols

A short documentary film on the Balmain Tigers' "Number One Fan", Laurie Nichols, is now available on DVD.

Told through the words and stories of many of the Balmain Tigers favourite sons, along with footage of Laurie in action, this is a film that captures what he meant to the club, what the club meant to him and, no doubt, to many others.

There is the famous and hilarious true-tale of Laurie's encounter with a cat on a Blue Mountains train, and many other recounted moments from the Leichhardt Oval hill and terraces.

Through 1999 Laurie fought hard for the retention of 16 clubs in the NRL, South Sydney, and stood firm against Balmain merging.

Laurie passed away three days before the Wests Tigers played their first premiership game. Seemingly, and who could argue otherwise, it was all too much for Laurie's black-and-gold heart to bare.
