Larrikin
& Saint: Graeme 'Changa' Langlands
by Helen Elward
Finally someone has been able to pin Graeme Langlands down long enough
to get a book written about
him - and it is a work that befits the man who has become a true legend
of rugby league.
While
his playing career was completed a quarter of a century ago, the aura
of one of rugby league's Immortals has never so much as flickered.
Along
with the other "St. George Immortals" Graeme Langlands is
still immensely popular with Dragons fans of all ages. Not just throughout
the League strongholds of NSW and Queensland, but with all those "Kogarah
faithful" who are now scattered all around the world.
The
book benefits from the direct input of Changa himself and his contemparies
including Johnny Raper, Reg Gasnier, Johnny King, Billy Smith, Norm
Provan, Arthur Beetson, Bob McCarthy, John Sattler, Bob Fulton, Jack
Gibson along with journalists Ian Heads and Mike Gibson.
For
the ever increasing number of League fans who never saw Langlands play
or who only caught the tail of his magnificient career, reading this
book is a must to truly appreciate what a great of the game Changa was.
For those who were fortunate to witness Langlands in flight - a welcome
flood of memories will return.
